Terms and Conditions
These terms explain what you can expect from Ekati and what we ask of you in return. They apply to families, independent learners and the schools that run their courses on the platform, and they apply wherever you use Ekati — on the website or in the mobile app.
1. Who we are
Ekati is an online learning platform. Schools use it to publish and sell courses, run classes and follow learners; independent learners and families use it to find and take courses directly.
We deliver that platform as a website you can use in any browser and as a mobile app for iPhone, iPad and Android phones — iOS and Android. Those are two faces of the same service, governed by the same terms, and an account you open in one is the same account you use in the other.
A school that publishes on Ekati is a separate organisation. Its own fees, its own promises to its learners and its own policies are its responsibility, not ours. Where these terms talk about "a school", they mean the institution operating that separate account.
2. Where you use Ekati
You can use Ekati through more than one of these at once. Nothing about your courses, your progress or your certificates changes because you switch between them.
Where you install the app, it is licensed to you — not sold to you — for your own use on devices you own or control. You may not resell it, lend it as a service, or include it in a product of your own. Any feature offered in the app may also be offered on the website, and either may be ahead of the other for a while.
- If you buy or download the app through the App Store or Google Play, their terms also apply to that purchase, alongside these. Where the two conflict on something to do with the store itself, their terms govern that.
- Reviews you leave about the app are yours to write. Please write them honestly and describe what actually happened — a review that misstates the experience is a breach of these terms.
- The app is only supported on versions we have not yet retired. We will tell you before we stop supporting a version, so you are not left on something that will not be fixed.
3. Accounts
You need an account to enrol, to follow your progress or to run a school. You are responsible for what happens under your account, so keep your password to yourself and tell us promptly if you think someone else has access to it.
You must be old enough to hold a contract where you live to create an account for yourself. Younger learners are normally added by a parent, a guardian or their school, and a parent or guardian accepts these terms on their behalf.
The app does not store your password separately from the server. If you sign in on a device, that device holds a session for as long as you leave it signed in, so sign out on a phone you do not control.
- Give accurate information, and keep it accurate. We rely on it for reports, certificates and billing.
- One person, one account. Sharing an account makes progress and certificates unreliable for everyone using it.
- Tell us if you no longer control an email address or a phone number on the account.
4. Buying courses and paying
Paid courses are sold either by a school or by Ekati itself, and the seller is named before you pay. A course marked as free has no price and no payment step.
Prices are shown in the currency listed on the course and may exclude tax where tax applies. A discount, where offered, is applied before you are charged. A price shown in the app is the same price as on the website at the time you pay.
- Paying enrols you in the course. It does not transfer any right to resell it or to share its materials.
- A refund is available if you have not begun the course and you ask within the period the seller states on the course. Where no period is stated, ask within 14 days.
- Where a course cannot be delivered for a reason outside our control, we will offer you something of comparable value or a refund.
- Payment details are handled by our payment providers. We never store a full card number, and in the app we never see it either — it goes from your device to the provider.
5. The app on your device
The app asks for device permissions only when a feature needs one, and it works without most of them. Declining a permission disables the feature that needs it and leaves the rest of Ekati usable.
You can download course material to your device to read or watch it without a connection. That copy is yours to delete whenever you like, and you should delete it on a device you have given away or handed back.
- Notifications: used to tell you about your classes, your results and messages. You can turn them off in your device settings or in the app, and Ekati will still work.
- Camera: used only when you choose to scan something, such as a code or a document you are asked to submit.
- Photos and files: used only when you attach something to a submission or to your profile.
- We do not ask for your precise location, your contacts, your microphone or your SMS messages, and the app does not read them.
- Keep the app up to date. We will not keep working around a version with a known problem, and an out-of-date app may be refused sign-in.
6. Schools on the platform
A school that publishes on Ekati is responsible for its own courses, its own staff and the data it collects from its learners. We provide the platform; we do not vet, endorse or supervise a school's teaching, its fees or its internal policies.
A school chooses which of its learners appear on the platform, what it collects about them and who may see it. It is the school's own obligation to inform its learners and to obtain any consent its law requires.
- You may not publish material you have no right to publish, or material that infringes anyone else's rights.
- You may not use the platform to send unsolicited bulk messages, or to harvest personal data.
- You may not misrepresent your school's accreditation, its results or its rankings.
7. Content, certificates and feedback
Course material belongs to whoever made it — usually the school, sometimes the author. Buying a course gives you a licence to study it and to use the notes you take from it for your own learning. It does not give you the right to copy, record, resell or redistribute it.
Your work, your answers and your projects remain yours. You grant us only the permission needed to operate the service: to store them, to show them back to you, to let your teacher or school mark them, and to display your result on a certificate.
8. Acceptable use
You may not use Ekati to break the law, to infringe anyone's rights, to attack the service or to copy it for another business.
- Do not attempt to reach accounts or data that are not yours.
- Do not upload malware, or interfere with another person's use of the platform.
- Do not scrape, mirror or systematically copy course content.
- Do not use the platform to harass anyone, or to distribute harmful or unlawful material.
- Do not attempt to modify, repackage or redistribute the app, or to have it modified for you.
9. Availability and changes
We work to keep Ekati available and to keep your data safe, but we do not promise that it will never be interrupted. Planned maintenance is announced in advance where we can.
We may add, change or retire features, on the website, in the app or both. If a change removes something you have paid for, we will tell you, and where the change materially reduces the value of what you bought we will offer a refund or an equivalent.
10. Ending your use of Ekati
You can close your account at any time, and you can ask us to delete your data — see the data deletion policy, which explains exactly what is removed and what we are required to keep.
Deleting your account closes it everywhere at once. You do not have to uninstall the app first, and uninstalling the app alone does not delete anything: it only removes Ekati from that device.
We may suspend or close an account that breaks these terms, that endangers other users, or that we are legally required to act on. Where we can, we will tell you why first and give you a chance to fix it.
Closing an account does not undo what has already happened: a course you completed stays completed, and money already spent is dealt with under the refund terms above.
11. Liability
We provide Ekati as it is. To the extent the law allows, we are not responsible for indirect or consequential loss, for lost profit or income, or for a school's own teaching or its own commercial promises.
Where we are liable, our total liability is limited to the amount you actually paid us in the twelve months before the problem arose. Some jurisdictions do not allow certain exclusions, in which case the exclusion applies only as far as that law permits.
12. Law and disputes
These terms are governed by the law that applies where Ekati is operated. If you are a consumer, this does not take away any protection you have under the mandatory law of where you live.
Before going to court, please write to us. Most disagreements are misunderstandings and are resolved quickly.
13. Changes to these terms
We may update these terms. When a change is significant — a new obligation, or one that costs you something — we will tell you before it takes effect, by email and, where the change is about money or your data, on the platform itself.
Continuing to use Ekati after a change takes effect means you accept it. If you do not, you can close your account.
